Cerebrolysin has been found to improve cognitive function in several double-blind trials of patients with Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, and traumatic brain injury. It is believed that Cerebrolysin is both neuroprotective and improves neuron connections during treatment and for 6 months to a year after treatment. This product is derived from porcine brain tissue. It is isolated, purified, and highly tested for infection, including testing for prions.
Cerebrolysin is prescribed as daily subcutaneous injections, usually for 40 days. It can be self-administered by the patient after training or administered by clinical staff in our office.
